Net TV

It is essential  that two parties believe in the development of Net TV from Philips: the consumer and the content provider. Ordina is partnering with Philips in developing an Internet connected TV, one that will take centre stage in living rooms, be very user friendly, deliver excellent infotainment and become the place to be for large services and content parties.

Challenge

For an innovative company like Philips, developing the technology for Net TV is obviously no big challenge. During the course of  this project Ordina’s focus lies mainly in finding interesting applications for Net TV and attracting market parties, parties who are interested in this new way of watching TV.

Solution

By involving the parties early on during this initiative, the commercial viability of the Net TV concept can be validated by the market and the business rationale behind the concept can be clarified.  The various stages of this programme include: validating the business case, an extensive market research exercise to determine the potential for Net TV services, an internationally presented pilot and prototypes of additional services,  a well-founded strategy for the roll-out of the products and services within Europe as well as an open platform  based on CE-HTML, the new open standard for Net TV services.

Net TV broadcasts Internet content from 3rd parties to television, with the goal being the  best experience for the consumer. The content is easily accessed with a remote control. This is done with an integrated solution rendering set-top boxes and service subscriptions unnecessary.

Our client

Philips is developing an Internet connected TV in collaboration with Ordina: Net TV, which will be launched on the market during the first quarter of 2009. For consumers this will be a completely new experience in watching TV.  Combining the best op both worlds: the image, sound and entertainment quality of TV and the interactivity of the Internet.

Result

Philips devised a strategy for the introduction of Net TV in Europe, in close collaboration with Ordina’s experts.  It involves a validated business case and an extensive market research exercise with the result: a well-founded strategy for the products and services within Europe. Aside from collaborating on the strategy, Ordina is responsible for the programme management for the realisation of the complete ecosystem.
